Podcast interview with Stig Thoegersen, China expert: Is Beijing's policy of common prosperity just a policy tool to retain power?
‌In this podcast [24 min], Insightview has talked to Stig Thøgersen, Professor Emeritus of China Studies, Aarhus University, about what this website describes as a "mini cultural revolution" in China. [Read the Insightview article, China: The Second Cultural Revolution?] The editor asks Stig in which direction China and Xi Jinping are headed.

Today, the Communist Party seems to have complete control over the state apparatus, the military, the judiciary, the media and the most important economic sectors. Most importantly, Xi Jinping seems to be in complete control of the CCP. ‌‌In this context, Xi Jinping's ongoing campaign against anything not within the "norm" may surprise many observers of China. Insightview asks Stig whether Xi Jinping's broader "socialist narrative" is supported by ordinary Chinese households?

‌Stig Thøgersen went to China for the first time as a language student in 1974-1975 and has followed the transformation of the Chinese society ever since. He has done fieldwork in several Chinese provinces and has published extensively on Chinese education and political, social and cultural change in rural China.
