Podcast interview with The Economist's Berlin bureau chief, Tom Nuttall, about Germany's domestic and foreign policy when Angela Merkel steps down. How will politics change with the Green Party as part of the next government? The relationship to China?
In this podcast [37 min], Insightview has interviewed Tom Nuttall, The Economist's Berlin bureau chief. ‌In Europe, we know more about politics in the United States than in Germany, even though Germany is the economic and political centre of Europe. This means Europe could be up for a surprise when Mrs Merkel steps down after Germany's national election in September, which raises many unanswered questions about the future of Germany and the European Union.

‌Insightview asks Tom about Angela Merkel's performance since she was elected Chancellor in 2005. Also, we discuss what comes next? How will politics change with the Green Party as a coalition partner in the next government? Who will be the next Chancellor candidate of the CDU/CSU? What will happen to Germany's relationship with China and with the United States if the Green Party joins the next government?
‌‌
Tom Nuttall has been The Economist‘s Berlin bureau chief since November 2018. Before that, he spent four years based in Brussels writing the Charlemagne column. He has also worked as US west coast correspondent in Los Angeles, and as an editor on the Europe desk in London. Before joining The Economist he worked as an editor at the European Council on Foreign Relations, a think-tank, and spent several years as a senior editor at Prospect magazine.  [Image: The Economist.]
