Podcast interview: What comes next when Angela Merkel steps down in 2021? Learn more about Germany's political landscape in this interview with Moritz Schramm, Associate Professor
In this podcast [48 min], Insightview has interviewed Moritz Schramm, Associate Professor at the Department of the Studies of Culture at the University of Southern Denmark, about German politics. The editor asks him about the impact of Chancellor Merkel leaving office in 2021 at the same time as a highly export-oriented Germany faces significant headwinds from technology disruption and deglobalisation.

We also talk about why it will be difficult for CDU, CSU and SPD to move away from the centre despite the potential threat from AfD, a far-right party. We touch on the CDU/CSU chancellor candidates and the possibility of a Conservative-Green government after the general election in 2021. Furthermore, the interview touches on the possibility of a "two-speed Europe". Moritz Schramm holds an MA in German Studies and Political Science from Freie University of Berlin and a PhD in Contemporary Literature from the University of Copenhagen.

At first glance, Germany seems to have a stable political landscape not least due to a strong economy. This has, to no small extent, been supported by the fact that the German economy has benefited from hiding within a weak currency union. Insightview asks Moritz Schramm whether this “Goldilocks environment” will continue, as Germany now faces a significantly more hostile environment.‌

‌In 2020, Moritz Schramm gained attention after participating in a documentary, How would you feel if your grandfather was Hitler's friend?, about his grandfather, Albert Speer, Hitler's court architect, personal friend and armour minister during World War II.
