Podcast interview with Anne Sofie Schoett from the Royal Danish Defence College: What is President Erdogan's plan for Turkey?
IIn this podcast [28 min], Anne Sofie Schøtt, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Royal Danish Defence College, was interviewed to find out what is going on in Turkey. The country has all that is needed for the economy to do well in the long run. Turkey is exposed to demographic tailwinds because of a young population. Yet, Turkey plunges from one political and economic crisis into the next.

‌President Erdogan seems to have alienated foes and friends in Turkey and abroad. This culminated last month when President Erdogan fired the central bank's governor after the governor had raised policy rates by two percentage points to fight inflation and capital outflow. We discuss whether Turkey is headed towards becoming an autocratic regime – or has this already happened?

‌Also, Insightview asks Anne Sofie to analyse Turkey's foreign policy, which often feels self-contradictory. This applies not least to Ankara's peculiar relationship with Russia. Nonetheless, Anne Sofie believes that Turkey will stay in NATO, which safeguards Turkey's interests. We also discuss Turkey's relationship with the European Union. Furthermore, we discuss why Mr Erdogan still sees strong support among Turkey's voters.
